Drishyam 3 Release Date, Runtime and Language

The makers announced the release date of 2 October 2026 in an announcement video in December 2025. The date coincides with Gandhi Jayanti, which gave the film a long holiday weekend at the start of its run.

The film is in Hindi and runs about two and a half hours. The official trailer was launched on 9 September 2026 at a special event in Panjim, Goa. Star Studio18 distributed the film in India, while Panorama Studios and Zee Studios handled the overseas theatrical release.

Drishyam: The Conclusion Story Overview (Spoiler-Free)

The film picks up six months after the events of Drishyam 2. The case against the Salgaonkar family has been closed due to lack of evidence. Yet one person has not moved on. Meera Deshmukh, the former Inspector General of Police, is still grieving her son Sameer, and her inability to prove Vijay’s involvement in his death has taken a toll on her mental health.

Her husband Mahesh had earlier opposed reopening the matter, but he now approaches SP Rajveer Singh Tomar of the Crime Branch and asks him to reopen the investigation. Tomar is convinced there is a hidden gap in Vijay’s story. Along with Sub-Inspector Laxmikant Gaitonde, he quietly restarts the inquiry and keeps watch on Vijay’s movements.

Meanwhile, Vijay appears to be living a calm life. He visits a local church, makes donations and keeps working on his upcoming film. The central question of the film is simple: has the man who outsmarted the system twice finally been cornered, or is he still a step ahead?

Unlike the earlier films, Drishyam: The Conclusion tells an original story. It is not narratively connected to its Malayalam counterpart, which makes it a fresh watch even for viewers who know the Malayalam series.

Key Characters Explained

Vijay Salgaonkar is a self-made family man who has become a folk hero in the franchise for protecting his family against a powerful system. This time, the film examines how that system tries to break the myth built around him.

Meera Deshmukh is the emotional centre of the story. Her grief is the reason the case is revisited, and critics have noted that Tabu’s performance as a mother who cannot accept a world without her only child stays with the viewer.

SP Rajveer Singh Tomar is the new police face of the franchise. He is methodical and patient, and Jaideep Ahlawat plays him as a quiet, persistent investigator.

Indrajith Shetty is the lawyer hired by the Deshmukhs. His courtroom arguments drive the film’s second half, and the casting of Prakash Raj adds weight to those scenes.

Behind the Scenes: How Drishyam 3 Was Made

Development

The Hindi remake of the third instalment was confirmed in May 2025. Early reports suggested that the original Malayalam film and the Hindi version would be shot and released together. However, Malayalam director Jeethu Joseph dismissed those reports and clarified that the original would release first.

In May 2026, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that the Hindi film would follow a different narrative from the original version. That decision shaped the identity of the Hindi film. Instead of a straight remake, Abhishek Pathak and his co-writers built a new story for Vijay’s final chapter. The official title, Drishyam: The Conclusion, was revealed in August 2026.

Casting

Casting was one of the most discussed parts of the film. In October 2025, there were reports that Paresh Rawal had been offered a role. Akshaye Khanna, who played the investigating officer in Drishyam 2, was initially set to return. However, he later left the project because of creative and financial disagreements with the producers. He was replaced by Jaideep Ahlawat, who plays SP Rajveer Singh Tomar. Prakash Raj joined the cast in February 2026.

The core Salgaonkar family returns, with Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav reprising their roles, while Tabu and Rajat Kapoor continue as Meera and Mahesh Deshmukh.

Filming

Principal photography began in December 2025 in Mumbai. Filming continued in Goa in January 2026 and wrapped in June 2026. Goa, with its churches, cemeteries and coastal settings, is central to the story’s visual world.

The Franchise Behind the Film

The Hindi franchise began with the 2015 film Drishyam, directed by the late Nishikant Kamat and adapted from the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam hit. Abhishek Pathak took over the franchise with Drishyam 2 in 2022 after Kamat’s passing. That sequel became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of its year and ended its India run at around ₹240.54 crore net. The first film earned about ₹110 crore worldwide.

Drishyam: The Conclusion Songs and Music

The soundtrack was released on 28 September 2026 by Sony Music India. It runs for about 15 minutes and was recorded between 2025 and 2026 at AMV Studio in Mumbai and Soundemic Studios in Dubai. The songs are composed by Ravi Basrur, Rochak Kohli and Karma, with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, Aamil Keeyan Khan and Karma. Amar Mohile composed the background score.

No. Song Lyrics Music Singer Length
1 Vingansa Aamil Keeyan Khan Ravi Basrur Siddharth Basrur 4:31
2 Muskura Do Manoj Muntashir Rochak Kohli Lucky Ali 3:51
3 Daastaan – The Drishyam Recap Aamil Keeyan Khan Ravi Basrur Sunidhi Chauhan 4:12
4 Game Over Karma Karma Karma 2:20

The first single, “Vingansa”, arrived on 17 September 2026. “Muskura Do” followed on 23 September, and “Game Over” on 28 September. “Daastaan – The Drishyam Recap” works as a musical reminder of the story so far, which is useful for viewers who want to refresh their memory before the final chapter.

Drishyam: The Conclusion Box Office Collection

The box office run of Drishyam 3 has been outstanding, and it has changed the commercial scale of the franchise.

Opening Day and Weekend

The film opened to about ₹62 crore net in India on Friday, 2 October. That made it the second-highest opening day of 2026, behind only Dhurandhar The Revenge, and placed it among the biggest opening days in Hindi cinema history. Trade tracker figures also describe it as the biggest opening of Ajay Devgn’s career.

For comparison, the entire opening weekend of Drishyam 2 was about ₹64 crore. Drishyam: The Conclusion collected more than that in a single day, and it crossed the ₹100 crore mark in India in just two days.

Day-Wise Collection (India Net)

Day Date Approx. net collection
Day 1 (Friday) 2 October ₹62.00 crore
Day 2 (Saturday) 3 October ₹53.50 crore
Day 3 (Sunday) 4 October ₹61.00 crore
Day 4 (Monday) 5 October ₹21.00 crore
Day 5 (Tuesday) 6 October ₹19.50 crore
Day 6 (Wednesday) 7 October ₹15.50 crore
Total after 6 days ₹232.50 crore

Figures are based on trade tracker estimates and may be revised.

Worldwide Run

The film crossed ₹100 crore worldwide within two days and went past ₹300 crore worldwide gross in four days. In doing so, it overtook the reported lifetime worldwide gross of the Malayalam original, which finished at about ₹237.70 crore. Its opening weekend worldwide total was reported at around ₹272 crore.

The latest reported figures place the film at roughly ₹450 crore worldwide, made up of about ₹358 crore in India (gross) and about ₹91 crore overseas. This puts it among the top three highest-grossing Hindi films of 2026 and among the top three Indian films of the year. At the top of the 2026 chart is Dhurandhar The Revenge, which crossed the ₹1,100 crore mark.

A Note on the Numbers

Trade trackers often report slightly different totals, especially in the first few days. Some early estimates gave a higher day-one net figure, which was later adjusted. When comparing collections, check whether a number is net or gross, and whether it covers India or worldwide.

Why the Film Worked at the Box Office

  • Franchise trust: The first two films built a loyal audience across age groups.
  • Strong buzz: Positive early reviews and word of mouth pushed families and thriller fans into theatres.
  • A holiday release: Releasing on Gandhi Jayanti gave it a long weekend.
  • A “final chapter” appeal: The title promised closure, which created urgency to watch it in theatres.

The sharp drop from the weekend to Monday is normal for a big opener, but the weekday numbers stayed healthy, especially for a thriller that depends on surprises.

Drishyam: The Conclusion Review: What the Critics Said

Reviews have been largely positive, though ratings vary widely. On Rotten Tomatoes, all 16 critic reviews counted were positive, with an average rating of 6.9 out of 10.

Critic / Outlet Rating
Taran Adarsh, Bollywood Hungama 4.5/5
Sajin Shrijith, The Week 4/5
Renuka Vyavahare, The Times of India 3.5/5
Kartik Bhardwaj, Cinema Express 3.5/5
Shubhra Gupta, The Indian Express 3/5
Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV 3/5
Rishabh Suri, Hindustan Times 3/5
Sana Farzeen, India Today 3/5
Chirag Sehgal, News18 3/5
Sukanya Verma, Rediff.com 2.5/5

The Positive Reviews

Taran Adarsh was the most enthusiastic, rating the film 4.5 stars and calling it the best in the franchise. He praised the direction, writing, performances, courtroom sequences and climax.

Sajin Shrijith of The Week found it better than its Malayalam counterpart. In his view, the choice of an original narrative over copying earlier films gives the story emotional depth, with a focus on perceived, genuine and fabricated truths.

Kartik Bhardwaj of Cinema Express valued the mentally engaging experience the film offers at a time when many films rely on loud spectacle. Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India said its biggest strength is its ability to keep viewers immersed and anxious about what happens next.

Anuj Kumar of The Hindu observed that the screenplay spends its energy on how the system tries to take apart the myth of Vijay rather than on how he hides the crime. Rahul Desai of The Hollywood Reporter India found it a surprisingly satisfying watch, and Pragati Awasthi of WION felt it delivered the ending she had hoped for.

The Mixed Reviews

The three-star reviews mostly appreciated the performances and the pace, but raised similar concerns.

  • Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express felt the men carry most of the heavy lifting, but singled out Tabu’s wounded, grieving performance as unforgettable.
  • Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV called the script taut and fascinating, though he found the ending inconclusive.
  • Rishabh Suri of Hindustan Times felt the film has enough drama and nostalgia for fans, but asks viewers to accept a few too many things at face value for a franchise known for making the impossible seem plausible.
  • Sana Farzeen of India Today said the film moves with confidence but becomes indulgent at times, with too much clever dialogue.
  • Chirag Sehgal of News18 called it gripping and fast-paced, with strong work from Ajay Devgn, Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj and Kamlesh Sawant. His main complaint was that it sticks too closely to the franchise formula.

The Critical Voices

Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com gave the film 2.5 stars, comparing it unfavourably with the Malayalam version and saying the lead character shows less evolution. Bryan Durham of Variety India felt the cat-and-mouse game has lost some of its novelty and tension compared with the first two films. Renuka Vyavahare also noted that the film begins to drag toward the end and could have used tighter editing.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Drishyam 3

What Works

  1. The performances. Ajay Devgn’s controlled, hard-to-read presence remains the backbone of the franchise. Tabu brings genuine emotional weight, and Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj add quality to the investigation and courtroom portions.
  2. An original story. The film does not simply follow the Malayalam version, so even franchise followers cannot predict it.
  3. The courtroom drama. The legal arguments, witness statements and surprise evidence are among the most praised parts of the film.
  4. An emotional core. The story is not only about clever moves. It also asks what grief, guilt and loyalty do to people on both sides of the case.
  5. The climax. Many critics singled out the final act as the film’s most satisfying stretch.

What Does Not Work

  1. The length. At about two and a half hours, the film slows down toward the end.
  2. Heavy dialogue. Some critics felt the writing enjoys its own cleverness a little too much.
  3. Familiar formula. The structure of the cat-and-mouse game will feel familiar to those who have followed the franchise.
  4. Plausibility. A few reviewers felt the plot asks the audience to accept some convenient events.

Drishyam: The Conclusion OTT Release

The digital streaming rights have been acquired by Netflix. An official streaming date has not been announced in the available information, and OTT releases of big Hindi films usually come a few weeks after the theatrical run. Viewers can check Netflix’s announcements for the confirmed date.

⚠️ SPOILER ALERT: Drishyam: The Conclusion Full Plot Explained

The section below reveals the full story and the ending. Skip to the verdict if you have not watched the film.

The Investigation Restarts

Although DNA testing had already proved that the skeleton found in the earlier investigation did not belong to Sameer, Tomar suspects that Vijay replaced Sameer’s remains just before the court proceedings. As he and Gaitonde watch Vijay, they notice he has been visiting a local church and has become friendly with Raghu, a security guard at the medical college where the evidence was stored.

Raghu says Vijay visited the college with him on the night of 23 July 2021, and that the two drank until they passed out. The college had no working CCTV cameras covering the evidence room, so Tomar concludes that Vijay used the chance to swap Sameer’s skeleton for another set of remains.

The Trail Leads to Christopher Pinto’s Grave

Tomar traces the unidentified skeleton to a man named Christopher Pinto. That leads him to Christopher’s grave and its caretaker, Savio D’Souza, who has disappeared. Meanwhile, Vijay maintains a respectable public image, donates to the church and works with a prop artist to create a highly realistic prop for his film.

Savio is eventually found in Kerala and agrees to give a written statement against Vijay about the disappearance and replacement of Christopher’s skeleton. Meera and Mahesh also hire the prominent lawyer Indrajith Shetty.

The Courtroom Showdown

At the hearing, Raghu testifies that Vijay was with him, but Savio retracts his statement and claims the police pressured him. Shetty argues that the conflicting evidence demands further investigation and asks the court to order the excavation of Christopher’s grave. Despite objections from Vijay’s defence, the court agrees.

When Tomar’s team reaches the cemetery, members of the local Christian community confront them and oppose the excavation on religious grounds. The excavation still goes ahead, and to everyone’s surprise, Christopher’s skeletal remains are found intact.

At the same time, Shetty questions Nandini about Vijay’s whereabouts on the night of 23 July 2021. She says Vijay was at home. Shetty then plays audio recordings collected by undercover officers Shiv and Jenny, who had bought the property next to the Salgaonkar home and installed surveillance equipment. The recordings place Vijay inside his house and directly contradict Raghu’s testimony.

With conflicting evidence on record, the court finds reasonable doubt, acquits the Salgaonkar family and permanently closes the case.

How Vijay Pulled It Off

After the hearing, Tomar, Meera, Mahesh, Shiv and Jenny piece together Vijay’s plan.

  • The recordings: About two and a half years earlier, Shiv and Jenny had bought the house next door while working undercover. Vijay anticipated that his home would be watched. With his family’s help, he used prerecorded audio to create the impression that he was at home on the night of 23 July 2021, while he was actually at the medical college with Raghu.
  • The false identity: To delay the excavation, Vijay used the identity of “Sister Pereira” to warn members of the local Christian community that the government planned to demolish their church and cemetery to acquire the land. This turned the community against any digging, so the police could never examine Christopher’s grave properly.
  • The missing skeleton: The skeleton used in the swap was placed under strict surveillance in the evidence room, so Vijay could not take it back. Savio had expected Vijay to return Christopher’s skeleton after using it.

The Final Twist

The answer lies in Vijay’s months of work with the prop artist. The “film prop” was in fact a highly detailed replica of a human skeleton. With Savio’s help, Vijay secretly placed this replica inside Christopher’s grave. That kept his promise to Savio and convinced both the authorities and the community that Christopher’s remains had never been disturbed.

In the end, Tomar and his team understand everything but cannot prove any of it in court. Christopher’s skeleton appears to be in its grave, the recordings appear to place Vijay at home, and the community still opposes any further excavation. Vijay has turned the evidence meant to expose him into part of his own alibi.

Ending Explained

The ending stays true to the franchise’s central idea: the truth and what can be proved are two different things. The police are right about what happened, but the film leaves them without usable evidence. Critics were divided on this closure. Some saw it as a clever and fitting finale, while others, such as NDTV’s reviewer, found it inconclusive.

Final Verdict: Is Drishyam: The Conclusion Worth Watching?

Drishyam: The Conclusion is a well-acted and engaging thriller that gives Vijay Salgaonkar’s story a fitting final chapter. It may not capture the novelty of the first film or the tension of the second, and its length and dialogue-heavy writing test patience in places. Still, its original story, strong courtroom scenes, emotional performances by Ajay Devgn and Tabu, and a memorable final twist make it a satisfying watch for fans of the franchise.

The box office response shows that audiences were ready for this goodbye. If you enjoy crime thrillers that depend on planning and psychological games rather than action, this film is worth seeing in a theatre.
